Although the Blog-Writing Muse has not graced me with her presence very much lately, the Garden-Muse has. Every morning, in fact.
This past week, we have begun to imbibe in gourmet greens. I like to toss them with balsamic dressing, crumbled feta, and maybe a slice of tomato. Of course, this little meal will rise to new heights when REAL tomatoes are in hand.
Also on the garden-meal docket: sugar-snap peas. Oh my goodness. One can't even begin to compare those evil soggy nasty-tasting canned things ( that go by the name of "peas"!!) to what we steam lightly, swirl with butter, and eat while swooning.
And that's all I've got to say about that.

a small thought
It takes only a small thought for beauty.
Earlier this afternoon I spied some wild iris and wild mint on our riverbank which I claimed for mine. A dainty silver vase was extracted from the back shelf of the dining room hutch.
And the place of honor for this delicate display? The laundry room.
Wasn't it a treat to forget all about this spot of beauty until late this afternoon? Washing up from the garden was made ever so nice!

all sorts of gardens
It happened a bit later than I had hoped, but the garden was finally planted this week!
You would know this if you saw me pick up a container of dish detergent from the bottom shelve of WalMart.
Oh my lower back.
But here it is in all its dirty glory. Please note the river in the background. It makes everything so much more beautiful with its sparkling cheer and its constant presence.
This is the view from the front porch. The LOTM's stone wall is holding up nicely, and now has some sort of resident creatures that tunnel in & around it. I predict chipmunks, at least to myself.
The option of snakes --however harmless & good for keeping pesky critters at bay blah blah blah--
gives me the willies. Additionally, if one EVER pops out its head at me, I would dance the Irish jig all over the front yard in full view of passing traffic.
Please do not wish this upon me, however funny it might be. I have performed the Mouse-in-Hair Dance before, and it did not add to my personal dignity in the least.
With the help of #1 Daughter, I snagged a few wheelbarrows full of straw from the loft of the barn. It is antique straw, which means it is good for nothing else but mulch. I have about another 8 - 10 years of supply up there.
Over in front of the stone wall I planted many flowers. I will now patiently await their arrival, comforting myself with the fact that I spent around 6$ (seed packets) for them, not $160 (trays of ready-to-plant seedlings). I do love flowers.
Speaking of flowers, I bring you this pic of the most treasured flower I have. She is such a beauty it takes my breath away.
As for the care & nurture of this beautiful blossom, I am honored to keep on keepin' on.
Throughout our lives we encounter all sorts of gardening & I'm good with that.
